What AniMate is

AniMate (萌灵) is a lightweight desktop companion for Windows and macOS that puts an interactive 3D VRM character on your desktop. The character stays visible while you work, responds to mouse interaction, follows your cursor, reacts to head pats and dragging, idles naturally, and gently moves along with whatever audio your system is playing.

You can start with two built-in models for free. The full version — a one-time license, not a subscription — unlocks importing your own VRM models, custom motions, dances, and a personal character library managed in the Workshop.

Who builds it

AniMate is developed and operated by channing, an individual software developer based in China. The first public release launched in June 2026. Development, support, and product decisions are handled directly by the developer — when you email [email protected], you reach the person who builds the app.

Release notes, development updates and bug reports also live at AniMate Waifu on GitHub. That repository is the official home for documentation and issue tracking; the application itself is closed source.

What we optimize for

• VRM first. VRM 0.x and VRM 1.0 are the native formats — no forced conversion pipelines or locked marketplaces.
• Lightweight by default. No MMD, Unity, or Blender knowledge required to get a character on your desktop.
• Try before anything else. The core desktop-companion experience works with the free built-in models.
• Your characters, your library. Imported models stay yours and keep working across app updates.

How it is sold

The full version is a one-time license. Purchases are processed by a third-party payment provider acting as Merchant of Record — see the Refund Policy for the 14-day refund window and the Privacy Policy for how purchase data is handled.
